Area of Interest E
Board Discretion
Discretionary funding for emerging, time-sensitive, or community-identified needs that align with the Foundation’s mission and commitment to Lānaʻi.
Purpose
A community’s needs evolve. This area ensures the Foundation evolves with them. Discretionary funding is allocated by the OHPF Board to support initiatives that don’t fit neatly within Areas A–D but clearly serve the Foundation’s mission.
What this covers
- Community-identified needs and emerging priorities
- Cross-area initiatives combining education, culture, and technology
- Disaster relief beyond individual Emergency Care Support
- Cultural preservation and community identity projects
Who should consider applying
Is this right for you?
Who this is | Description |
|---|---|
Community Leaders | Lānaʻi residents or diaspora proposing community-wide initiatives aligned with OHPF’s mission. |
Cultural Stewards | Individuals proposing oral history, traditional arts, or language instruction projects. |
Crisis Responders | Community organizations coordinating disaster relief or recovery efforts on Lānaʻi. |
Example Scenarios
What support looks like
- After a severe storm damages homes on Lānaʻi, the Board directs emergency funds for immediate relief and recovery beyond what individual Emergency Care Support can cover.
- A Lānaʻi community leader proposes a youth leadership program combining education, cultural engagement, and technology. The Board funds it as a cross-area initiative.
- A diaspora member proposes a cultural preservation project — oral history collection, traditional arts, or language instruction — that strengthens community identity across generations.
Scope & Boundaries
What this area does not cover
These are boundary markers — not barriers. They ensure each area of interest serves its intended purpose effectively, and that applicants are directed to the right resource.
Not covered under this area
- Requests that clearly fall within Areas A, B, C, or D (applicants will be redirected to the appropriate area)
- Activities that conflict with OHPF's mission, values, or 501(c)(3) requirements
- Political campaigns, lobbying, or partisan activities
- Religious worship services or proselytizing activities
- Requests that primarily benefit individuals outside the Lānaʻi community — including its diaspora — without a clear connection to OHPF's mission
